My Story Is Still Being Written

My story began before I was old enough to understand the circumstances surrounding my birth. I was born with cocaine in my system and raised by a mother and father who struggled with addiction. I grew up in the hood as one of eight children. Life wasn't polished or easy, but music gave me somewhere to put my emotions. I was always singing, even as a child, and that gift would eventually take me to national television.

 I wrote Journey of a Single Mother, turned it into a stage play, and began developing it into a feature film. This is not a polished or sanitized faith-based movie. Faith is part of my personal story, but Journey of a Single Mother is a raw urban drama. The film includes strong language, difficult situations, and characters who are imperfect, complicated, and trying to survive. It is set in the inner-city, and I felt responsible for showing that world honestly. So no, it is not all godly. Please believe that.

At its heart, Journey of a Single Mother is about a young woman navigating motherhood after trauma and abuse, and the difficult road she travels to reclaim her life, her identity, and her voice.

It is urban. It is emotional. It is complicated. And it is real.

The film does not ask viewers to see a perfect woman. It asks them to see a woman who survived.
